ASHROI celebrated International Women's Day

On March 8, 2025, International Women's Day was uniquely celebrated at the women's residential center for mentally ill patients, run by the NGO ASHROI. Sangita Deka Goswami, the chief director of Rashmirekha Beauty Parlour & Training Institute, along with her assistant Mitali Ghosh, personally provided beauty care to the residents. These women, struggling with mental illness, have long forgotten to take care of themselves, including their appearance. However, under the medical supervision of psychiatrists Dr. Nipul Mahanta and Dr. Khanindra Mohan Saud, along with the guidance of social psychologist Momi Devi, the residents at the "Navajeevan" Women's Mental Health Care Center are gradually reintegrating into normal life. Through the beauty care session led by Sangita Deka Goswami and Mitali Ghosh, the residents not only experienced external transformation but also felt a renewed sense of inner light and confidence. Since people with mental illness still face social neglect and stigma, this initiative was especially significant. On behalf of the "ASHROI" family, President Rinku Baruah Mahanta expressed gratitude and appreciation for their noble contribution.

From Homeless to Self-Reliant: The Journey of Moromi Das

Nalabari, December 20: Once living under the open sky with her young son, Moromi Das is now a self-reliant woman. Moromi, who was once homeless and mentally distressed, has found a new life under the care of "Ashroy," a halfway home in Nalbari. Earlier this year, in February, Moromi led the "Ashroy" team at the 29th National Convention for the Empowerment of the Intellectually Disabled in Secunderabad, where they won the Best Booth Award. Moromi now benefits from the Arunodoi scheme and manages a small shop selling flowers and tea, supported by Ashroy. Recently, Ashroy also helped her purchase an e-rickshaw, marking a significant step in her journey towards independence. Moromi’s son, Rahul, is now a regular student at school. Ashroy, a non-profit organization, has been working tirelessly to provide a new life to the homeless, intellectually disabled, mentally ill, and addicted individuals. Moromi Das’s transformation is a testament to their dedicated efforts. Her journey from living under a tree near the Tihu post office to becoming a self-sufficient woman is inspiring. The intervention began when Khonindra Haloi from the Social Welfare Department informed Ashroy about Moromi’s plight. On June 18, 2021, Ashroy’s team, led by Rinku Baruah Mahanta and members Aravinda Kalita and Momi Devi, rescued Moromi and Rahul, providing them with medical care and shelter. Under the guidance of psychiatrist Dr. Nipul Mahanta and social psychologist Momi Devi, Moromi received the necessary mental health treatment. Today, Moromi Das is a caring mother and a strong, independent woman. Her story, made possible by the unwavering support of Ashroy, serves as an inspiring example of transformation from homelessness to self-reliance.
